Here are simple Ayurveda diet tips.
Last month we talked about taste (rasa); a quick re-cap…
There are six tastes: sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent. Each dosha has three tastes which help to pacify it and three which can be aggravating. It is important to include all tastes in your diet, however eat more of the ones suited to your dosha and avoid certain foods which may aggravate your constitution.
Best tastes for your dosha:
Vata; sweet, sour, salty.
Pitta; sweet, bitter, astringent.
Kapha; bitter, pungent, astringent.
VATA: The important factors to remember when looking at food choices for Vata, is to select foods which are nourishing, warm, preserve lubrication and maintain elimination.
PITTA: When selecting foods for Pitta choose cool, drying, mild flavours over oily, light and spicy foods.
KAPHA: When selecting food choices for a kapha constitution look towards lighter food choices, warm food, dry & rough. Add more pungent, bitter and astringent tastes into the diet.
